react.js is only a “view layer”(that’s the wrong word, but it’s late)… meteor on the other hand is a full stack freamwork built on node.js. So yes, you have to somehow run a “server” to have a connection between server and client. Running a meteor server isn’t that hard … locally you can do it via “meteor” command which also automagically spawns a mongodb. As hosting solution you can use galaxy, modulus as paas or you host it yourself on and v or cloud server… just dig on google - there’s a package called “mup” which does all the magic for you.
