Paulownia Kamon Tray

paulownia tray presented in an art competition on a furoshiki cloth.

I made a piece of pottery some time ago, I would like to share. It is a porcelain tray with a Chinese parasol tree, blue-paulownia, design in black underglaze, covered with celadon glaze.

The card explains the use of the tray and time period it would have been used in.

The symbol is a Japanese family crest or Kamon (家紋). This crest originated from a Chinese parasol tree: blue-paulownia. Blue-paulownia is known as something good luck, because it is said to be a perch of Chinese phoenix. It is still used today as the family crest of the Emperor of Japan.
