Giving Thoughts a Twist


If any of my patients are reading this, they will know that I am all about giving thoughts a twist. It is easier said than done, but I know it is in everyone of us to make that happen. How else are we supposed to confront life if we get caught in a negative spider web?

So in therapy, I like to address three very important factors that include feelings, thoughts and actions.

  • Feelings need to be validated, taken into consideration, explored. Feelings are to be recognized and given the importance it deserves. All feelings are true and allowed. We are allowed to feel happy, sad, excited, angry, disappointed, satisfied, etc.
  • Thoughts are key to how our situations turns out. The thought needs to be explored and then given the twist they need in order for there to be a positive turnout. The purpose is to do a self check that the thoughts are not from the same negative pattern as in the past that brought you to this conflict. Be true to judging these thoughts so you don’t continue fooling yourself and living your own lie.
  • Actions proceed the thought that was altered to either adjust to the situation, get the changes you want, or/and let others know what is your stance in the situation. So after you decided how you’re going to think about the situation, this is how you will proceed with the situation.

In therapy, after validating the feelings, I will focus on what are your thoughts, how they mix with the emotions and how to separate them in order to see a more clear and panoramic picture of the situation. I address extreme thinking and how the thought worked for you in the past.

So all in all, think before you act.
