Re: westworld ignoring technology trends: I’d posit that is might be ignoring some trends but it’s in keeping with other (and possibly more important) economic ones. Yes, entertainment (adult and otherwise) has migrated towards the home but more pertinent to the trends of 2016 is that technology makes it easier to give us access to things that we don’t want to own. Uber means I don’t need a car because I have access to one when I need it. There is a major efficiency gain here because the cars people do own are being utilized all the time. Self-driving cars can be owned by companies and utilized by individuals as they need, further increasing efficiency.
Until the price of androids drop and they are affordable by all they will be kept at the park. Since they don’t seem to be practical for everyone to have a personal android then this step will be skipped and people can just use the androids as necessary. The park is, after all, just a place to keep the androids and to contain the storylines.
