Real Talk with an RVP: Salesforce’s Woman of the Month on Compassion, Comfort Zones, and Chocolate

Natalie Chrara is Salesforce’s Regional Vice President for Pardot Sales, covering the Asia Pacific region from her sunny hometown of Sydney, Australia. But she’s also a lot more than that. Chrara is a world traveler, an animal lover, a diversity advocate…and perhaps above all, a mentor.

Throughout her career in Fortune 500 high tech sales, Chrara’s deep-seated passion for coaching others fueled her to constantly learn new skills, hone her leadership capabilities, and explore ways to make a difference in the world. Three years ago, she joined Salesforce…and never looked back.

Our Woman of the Month sat down with us and got refreshingly real about what she’s learned along her career journey. Check out the candid conversation.

What work are you most proud of in your career?

I have mentored many exceptional individuals over the years. Being able to have a small part in their development and see them exceed their own expectations has given me far greater satisfaction than anything else. I’m so incredibly proud of their successes!

How do you create and maintain strong relationships at work?

I try to be genuine, honest, and trustworthy. In five years, no one will remember that I always hit my number. They will remember the joy and interest I took in their lives, the support and compassion I provided in times of need, and the belief I had in their ability to achieve their dreams.

What were your most pivotal professional moments?

I left a company after almost ten years with nothing else lined up, and I moved to a new city in pursuit of an opportunity. These risks forced me to confront my fear of change and push past it. It’s wasn’t easy, but it gave me the experience and courage I need to grow both personally and professionally.

What skills are important for achieving success?

I think the key to long-term success is resilience. Learn from your mistakes, try again, ask for help, be brave, and believe in yourself. Once you build up that resiliency, you’ll be able to handle any situation that comes your way.

How do you manage stress?

Honestly? I eat a lot of chocolate! When faced with a stressful situation, I always try to sleep on it and revisit it the next day before reacting or making hasty decisions. I like to take walks outside during the day to get a little peace of mind.

How do you stay engaged and excited about your job?

That’s an easy one! I’m surrounded by creative, like-minded, hard-working individuals with a strong sense of purpose. The passion of my teammates and my customers is infectious!

What are your favorite activities? How do they help you perform better at work?

I love to travel and explore new places. It allows me to appreciate everything I have, as well as the different perspectives and values of others. These experiences make me a more compassionate and understanding person and professional.

What is your best advice for moving ahead in your career?

Never give up on your dreams. Do not let yourself or anyone else limit your ability. Fight past setbacks and know you can achieve whatever you want. I truly believe that if your dreams in life do not scare you a little, they are either not big enough or they do not mean enough to you.

What’s next for you?

I want to help my team and my peers continue to grow and succeed. I want to be surrounded by even more strong women leaders in our industry. And, of course, I want to take over the world!
