In 2004, I waited in line for 4 hours (outside in the rain) to vote in Ohio. If I hadn’t had child care, I wouldn’t have been able to exercise my basic right as a citizen. I saw many people leave the long line before they had a chance to vote, because they had to work their shift. Ohio, which had a very close vote, was the margin of victory for George W. Bush that year in his close race with John Kerry.
