Let’s find out how and when media started through this timeline.

Cave Paintings

38,000 BCE

Cave paintings are painted drawings on cave walls or ceilings, mainly of prehistoric origin.
Personal Insight: Ancient people are doing cave painting in order to remember or record series of events in their lives.

Stone Tablets

30,000 BCE

In recent centuries the tablets have been popularly described and depicted as round-topped rectangles but this has little basis in religious tradition.
Personal Insight: Stone tablets are used mostly for religious reasons and announcements.

Rock Carving

30,000 BCE

Rock carving is an activity where pieces of rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of stone.
Personal Insight: They can express their selves by doing rock carving.

Smoke Signal

200 BCE

Smoke signal is one of the oldest form of long distance communication.
Personal Insight: In order to communicate or give information, they use smoke to deliver it.

Writing materials

150 BCE

Ancient writers wrote on a variety of other materials besides papyrus, including pottery, animal hides, wood, and even ancient paper.
Personal Insight: By using various writing materials, they can communicate to other people by writing.

Traditional Paper

100 BCE

Traditional paper is a “wood” like material primarily used for writing, first invented in ancient China.
Personal Insight: Using the traditional paper, they can write down the messages/announcements for people.

Printing Press

Printing press is a device for applying pressure to an inked surface resting upon a print medium (such as paper or cloth), thereby transferring the ink.
Personal Insight: In order to deliver information and messages, they print it using this device.

Newspaper

Newspaper is a serial publication containing news about current events, other informative articles about politics, sports, arts, and so on, and advertising.
Personal Insight: Using newspaper can inform people about the current events in our community by just reading them in a compiled papers.

Magazines

Magazine is a publication, usually a periodical publication, which is printed or electronically published.
Personal Insight: It is also the same as newspaper, but magazines are more colorful and more photos in it.

Photography

Photography is the science, art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light.
Personal Insight: To remember the events, they capture it using a camera.

Morse Code

Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment
Personal Insight: They use morse code to share information or communicate (often in secret)

Telegraph

Telegraph is the long-distance transmission of textual or symbolic messages.
Personal Insight: Using telegraph for a long distance communication to other people.

Typewriter

Typewriter is a mechanical or electromechanical machine for writing characters similar to those produced by printer’s movable type.
Personal Insight: By pressing the keys, they can type information and messages.

Telephone

Telephone is a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to conduct a conversation when they are too far apart to be heard directly.
Personal Insight: Telephone can be used to communicate to another person by talking to them in real time.

Phonograph

Phonograph is a device for the mechanical recording and reproduction of sound.
Personal Insight: It is used to record sounds or also called a record player.

Radio

1895

Radio is the technology of using radio waves to carry information, such as sound, by systematically modulating properties of electromagnetic energy waves transmitted through space.
Personal Insight: People listen to it in order to get informed about the recent happenings in the community.

Television

1927

Television is a telecommunication medium used for transmitting moving images in monochrome (black-and-white), or in color, and in two or three dimensions and sound.
Personal Insight: People use them to be entertained.

Personal Computer

1965

Personal computer or PC is a multi-purpose electronic computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for individual use.
Personal Insight: Use to store information or documents, watch videos, and etc.

E-mail

1972

Email also known as electronic mail is a method of exchanging messages between people using electronics.
Personal Insight: To have a direct and more formal exchange of information to another person.

Mobile phones

Mobile phone is a portable telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency link while the user is moving within a telephone service area.
Personal Insight: Use to communicate to another person anywhere.

Smart phones

1999

Smart phone is a mobile personal computer with a mobile operating system with features useful for mobile or handheld use.
Personal Insight: It is the more improved and modern version of mobile phones.

Social Media

2004

Social media are websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.
Personal Insight: We can share ideas, communicate with other people around the world, share our thoughts and feelings, and many more.

Throughout the years, our media improved in so many ways. New media has transformed the way we receive and produce content. In the past, old style media was the only form of media used to share content and communicate unlike nowadays which is a lot more easier and faster. Our media is still improving and currently in a rapid development that we look forward to use for a better world.
