Embrace the Violence:

“This naively assumes that nefarious individuals won’t always be able to procure whatever weapons by whatever means”

A knife, acid or any other reachable object you can think of that can be used as a weapon is incapable of causing as many casualties as semi-automatic weapons. Outside of a strictly regulated gun range, there is absolutely no use for semi-automatic weapons. I appreciate that at least there is some dialogue about strongly regulating them, but the argument that any object can cause harm is oblivious to the fact that some weapons are specifically designed to kill lots of people at once.
