Thankful for What?

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays throughout the year. I’m sure in your mind right you’re saying “She just loves it because of the food”. Yes, that is one of the reasons it is my favorite. But not all of the reason. I love when my family comes over to my house and we get to celebrate and appreciate each other. I love when my cousins come over and we all hang out in the dining room together and talk and eat as much food as we can. It is truly a blessing to have a family like I do to celebrate Thanksgiving with.

What is your favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving? Well my top favorites would have to be the wet stuffing, creamy mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. I am not a big fan of the turkey, but I still will eat it because it’s tradition. Along with eating with all my cousins, we always play card games. All of the cousins go sit at the dinner table and pull out our definite favorite card game, Phase 10. If you have never heard of this game all you do is deal out 10 cards to every player and you have 10 phases to pass. Then whoever gets to the 10th phase first, wins. But if two players finish the 10th phase at the same time they would normally check their scores and whoever has more points wins. Most people keep score, but we never do because honestly we don’t know how. But anyways, we all love to sit around and play this game. Sometimes the adults will join us and it’s funny to watch them get mad and competitive because they can never win. My dad will always sit there and trash talk us and we all just laugh. It is a really fun memory on Thanksgiving that my family and I enjoy. This is one of my favorite traditions. What is yours?

Unfortunately this year, I was not able to go black friday shopping. But I remember last year on black friday three of my cousins and I went out shopping to Kohl’s. We jammed all the way to Kohl’s in the car. While we were their shopping we ran into one of my friends and her family. I remember we found a really big, white fluffy jacket and we were trying it on and messing around and we even took pictures in it. It was getting late so we decided it would be better to just go back home. Sadly, my mom was not letting me miss swim practice that next morning. I was so frustrated and really wanted to sleep in that morning. My mom demanded for me to go so I had to get home and get some sleep. I was so tired the next day for practice and barely any of my team showed up, so I was kinda upset because I went and didn’t get to sleep in. This is a memory that will last in my mind when it comes to Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

There are so many things I can be thankful for, not only on thanksgiving but everyday. But on Thanksgiving it gives our families a reason to come together and celebrate such a grateful holiday. Coming together as a family to eat all the food you can is always a fun thing to do. I love sitting around the dinner table with my cousins and my big plate full of food as it sits on the leaf patterned table cloth. I love listening to the happiest and laughter in everyone’s voices. I love when all the men sit in the living room and watch the football games. They scream of joy while watching their favorite teams dominate. I hope your family traditions are as special to you as mine are to me.
