A life perspective

I used to drink my tea with sugar since it was what I was used to and because it ‘added’ to the flavour of my tea/coffee. I thought it added sweetness and increased the quality and thickness of the tea/coffee.

Then, four or five years ago, I stopped using sugar in my coffee and tea in an effort to reduce sugar and be healthier. Since then, I’ve been drinking tea — largely coffee (I’m a coffee babe) without sugar— so adding sugar to my tea or coffee makes me feel like something has been reduced instead. The drink’s strength and individuality become reduced, and its quality declines as a result of the sweetness. In fact, I believe it weakens my tea.

So I viewed it from a life perspective. I feel that sometimes we assume or believe that some things ‘add’ to our lives when in fact they reduce.’ Consider the dating scene. From the time we are kids, the notion of being single is at war with the idea of being in a relationship, because having a boyfriend or girlfriend has always seemed as a part of maturity and something that gives love, worth, value, status, and so on to your life. It’s almost as though such things are impossible to do without a companion.
