after a storm…

Rain showers heatedly beat against my home
and I enjoy hearing the droplets knocking
whispering, “Let me in…”

I see them stream and dance and collide

and suddenly

they are gone

The bursting energy from the atmosphere settles and citizens emerge after being huddled in fuzzy, pillow forts to return to their bustling, buzzing lives

And although they say after storms the earth feels calmer

I see a different reality

One where human liveliness is far more destructive

Than nature ever could be
