A Letter To Next Year’s Freshmen

Dear incoming 2022–2023 freshmen,

Grades are very important in high school. If you don’t get a D or higher in your classes you can’t graduate. You need to turn in all of your work to keep the best grades. Make sure you turn it in on time. The best way to make sure you are not failing is to always check powerschool. Even though grades are a very important don’t overthink it. High school can be easy as long as you do your work and don’t procrastinate. (Procrastinate means to delay or put off something)

You should also be on time to class there are tardy sweeps. A tardy sweep can happen during or before class. If you are caught in a tardy sweep you can and will be assigned to have Saturday school. I know everyone says this but do not run to lunch. The people who run to lunch everyone makes fun of because who wants to run to school lunch. Going to P.E. you want to be on time the gates get shut and you will get locked out. You can have security open the gate but it’s not worth being late.

Tilton does call people out. You want to make sure you are doing your work because he will call you out in front of the class. He takes everything about school very seriously. Grades, writing, presentations, and being on time is very important in Tilton’s class.

Reading a chapter every day can be difficult when you don’t want to read the book. When you want to read the book that the class is reading it makes it easier to do your homework. Reading and doing the edpuzzles (reading the book) can help with your essays. It will help you better understand what you are writing about. Try not to miss any chapters, do your homework.

Writing the essays in Tilton’s class gets harder but easier at the same time. You may think writing a essay every week is a lot but the more you do it the easier it gets. The more essays you write the more complex the essay is. You will have different kinds of essays to write as well. The essays are a big part of your grade so do them, it’s not worth the F. Writing in Tilton’s class will help you in other classes and in presentations.

Presentations may be scary but you have to face your fears. You need to practice a lot for your presentation because Tilton can tell when you don’t practice. In your presentations make sure everything is spelled right and you have good grammar. Also, make sure your bullet points aren't long and that you have information in your head.

When you do your typing use all 10 fingers it will help in the future. When you finish all your typing every week it is easier to keep up with them. Once you fall behind it is gonna be heard to catch back up. You can also work ahead and do more than your supposed to so you have less homework. You want to try and get all 5 stars on your typing it will be useful later in the year.

Being in biomed is fun sometimes. It is fun when you are doing experiments in Ms. Coffey's class, but it needs to be taken seriously. Make sure you do all of your work, don’t fall behind. Ms.Coffey is really nice so if you need help ask. She is really understanding so make sure you talk to her when you don’t understand something.

Having friends in high school is a little bit different than friends in middle school. Some people become fake so watch who you call your friend. Your “friends” will talk about you behind your back and I know this from experience. Having other friends in biomed can be useful. If you miss a day of school and need help on the work you missed if someone is really your friend they will help. Don’t trust everyone, you need to be aware of who you trust.

Having a relationship in high school can have good and bad consequences. A boyfriend or girlfriend can be distracting. Be aware of toxic relationships. When you are walking in the hallways know that couples walk ridiculously slow. Also if you have a relationship don’t make out in the halls it is very cringe.

When you use your phone in school you can get very distracted. In Tilton’s class he does not let you use your phone. I have tried to use my phone in his class and I got caught. There might be other teachers who don’t let you use your phone. Being on your phone while a teacher is teaching is very disrespectful. You will not only not know what the teacher is talking about but you also will be disrespecting a teacher.

Always do your work and pay attention.

Never put others down.

Remember that your phone will still be there after class.
