WHY DIGITAL MARKETING
The world of marketing has changed drastically and many business owners and marketers don’t know it yet. It is very easy to get lost in the crowd of traditional marketing processes and achieve less than expected results for your business marketing campaign. Your prospective customers are no longer looking in the direction you once think they were and things have changed totally. Here’s why; over 75% of people who need your products/services are expecting to find you online! For real! People want to access goods and services by just typing a bunch of keywords on Google search engine and they probably believe you should be there on the result pages. Here’s the conflict — you’ve lost and you’re still losing customers to competitors no matter the size of your business because your knowledge of the new kind of marketing is low and your business is probably not online yet.
Note: Google records over 40,000 search queries per second, 3 billion queries in a day, of users trying to get answers or search for products/services they need, especially from businesses closer to their demographic which includes your prospective customers who are trying to look up for products/services you offer too.
Digital marketing is the new kind of marketing today. It is also called online marketing because it targets customers who spend most of their time searching for your products online. It has suppressed the potency and effect of traditional marketing and has proven to be more effective and rewarding over the years.
THE IMPORTANCE AND BENEFITS OF DIGITAL MARKETING
1. BRAND AWARENESS
What is the need to set up a business if your major customers can’t find you? As much as they need you, they still can’t find you or still don’t know your brand exists. Digital marketing will help your business get discovered as well as promoting your brand to an even wider audience. Your brand represents your business identity and your value propositions (what you offer). So, when your brand doesn’t get discovered, it means nobody in the online community will know your business exists talk less of what you’re offering no matter how relevant it is.
2. A MORE FOCUSED AUDIENCE
Digital marketing is a very interesting marketing type that makes sure the people seeing your brand the most are people who are more likely to become your future customers. Isn’t that great? Think about it for a second; you don’t get to worry about funding a marketing campaign you don’t even believe is reaching the right audience. With digital marketing, you can be sure your marketing efforts and resources are not going down the drain. Trust me on that.
3. YOU CAN MONITOR AND MEASURE GROWTH
Speaking like a true Nigerian, I don’t spend much time reading a flyer given to me by a ‘roadside-marketer’ simply because I don’t feel like I’m interested in what the flyer is saying or just some other funny reasons. You probably are just like me and have your own reasons too right? Now look at it this way; at the other end, the marketer was only carrying out his job function (poor him), the organization which he represents has probably spent a lot of money printing these attractive flyers but somewhere in their thought, they gave this style of marketing a 50/50 chance. They say something like,”at least 50% will get the flyers and reach back to us.” That’s totally wrong! It’s only a waste of time, resources and efforts to depend on such type of marketing to bring in ultimate results.
With digital marketing, all your advertising campaign and efforts can be properly monitored, tracked and measured correctly with tools like Google Analytic, social media analytic and a host of others which I’ll be discussing in other learning series. There are no guessing games in digital marketing, only getting actual data and insights on monitored results to help make strategic decisions to improve your marketing campaign.

Digital marketing is a broad marketing process that encompasses several marketing branches all tied towards one goal — conversion (turning prospects into customers). Some major processes are
· Search Engine Marketing which includes; Search Engine Optimization (SEO) also newly called Search Intent Optimization & Paid Advertising
· Content Marketing
· Email Marketing
· Affiliate Marketing
· Social Media Marketing
Think of digital marketing as a big tree and the processes as branches. In the next few days, I’ll be exploring each one of the processes and offer simple approaches on how you can apply them to expand your business brand. No worries, even if you’re new to business, you can also implement these tips to help guide you in making the right decisions for your business.
