The New Deal: Apple + Postmates

I finally read something this weekend, that excited me enough to start writing again.

Apple and Postmates did a new deal to deliver Apple products within 4-hours.

I’m a nerd, I know, but this is pretty cool (more on why in a second).

Every week, I’m going to write about an interesting business development deal. It could be a real, new partnership between companies. Or, it could just be me making sh*t up, writing about a partnership I think should happen.

Let’s see if anyone finds this interesting:

What’s the deal: Apple expands partnership with Postmates to offer same-day delivery.

Context: Last May, Apple partnered with Postmates to offer same-day delivery for products bought through its App Store app. It must’ve worked, because now the courier service is available for people shopping on Apple’s web store.

Upside for Apple: They didn’t offer same-day delivery. Now, they do. Products are delivered in under 4 hours.

Upside for Postmates: This is huge. Postmates’ CEO, Bastian Lehmann has said that “Whenever we have enough [couriers], we see massive growth…the supply [of couriers] is still the biggest challenge we have in some of our markets.” This deal will increase demand for deliveries, helping Postmates attract more couriers.

Type of Partnership: Distribution.

Competitive Impact: Now that Postmates has scooped up deals with Chipotle, Starbucks, and Apple, DoorDash can’t be happy. They have their work cut out for them to “own the last mile.”
