The Excess of Less

I have read a few article of late with this argument, and like you mentioned most notably the NY Times piece by Kyle Chayka which I felt was extremely one sided. Yes, a minimalist interior in an expensive modern penthouse could perceived that it is something the wealthy can only experience, however, minimalism can be practised by anyone and has nothing to do with class. Removing things from your life again can be done by anyone and actually can make you more money in the process by selling those excess possessions and also in the long term by being selective in what you purchase. The fact that you are reducing self-indulgence and practising frugality means class and wealth have nothing to do with it. There are many facets to minimalism and some can possibly be perceived as exclusive to the wealthy (typically minimalist interior/architecture) but the fundamentals of minimalism stay true to all that embrace it “Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favour of focusing on what’s important — so you can find happiness, fulfilment, and freedom”
