From 31st October until 1st December I’ll be traveling around the West Coast of the USA. I’ll be mostly be based in San Francisco during my stay, raising awareness about Epilepsy, which is a brain condition that I have had for 20+ years and was only diagnosed with it late, 6 years ago.
From the 3rd November until the 12th November I’ll be in Los Angeles, and on the 7th of November I’ll be attending the 1st big Epilepsy Awareness Day being held at Disneyland ! — here’s the info you need about it:
A MAGICAL DAY AT THE ‘HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH’ FOR
FAMILIES IMPACTED BY EPILEPSY
Disneyland Resort Hosts Inaugural Epilepsy Awareness Day
In recognition of National Epilepsy Awareness Month, the Epilepsy Foundation and Disneyland Resort are teaming up to create a magical experience for families impacted by epilepsy. The inaugural Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland Resort will take place Thursday, November 7, 2013, as “The Happiest Place on Earth” honours people impacted by a medical condition for the first time.
“We hope Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland Resort draws attention to the fact that approximately one in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy during their lifetime,” said Phil Gattone, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation. “As a parent of a child with epilepsy, I recognize how crucial it is for families to have a chance to release some of the stress and come to a place where kids, regardless of their struggles with epilepsy, can just be kids. We are so excited to partner with ‘the happiest place on earth,’ and are so thankful to Disneyland Resort for giving us a chance to remind everyone that the Epilepsy Foundation is a place to go for help, support and inspiration.”
Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland Resort is presented in cooperation with the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles, the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County, and founding sponsor Dr. Diane Stein.
Attendees can purchase tickets on EpilepsyAwarenessDay.org with a designated portion of the ticket price supporting a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to helping people who live with epilepsy. Attendees will also receive a gift bag which includes a special event t-shirt and other materials.
“We are dedicated to increasing access to care, leading advocacy efforts, and providing epilepsy education that improves the lives of families impacted by epilepsy in the Greater Los Angeles area, including Orange County and surrounding counties. Disneyland is in our backyard and we are excited about this opportunity to welcome families from all over the country as they come here to connect with others and celebrate the importance of epilepsy awareness,” said Susan Pietsch-Escueta, executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles.
“As a neurologist and advocate for epilepsy awareness, I know we will create a new kind of event for epilepsy at Disneyland Resort: one that inspires a nation while bringing together adults, families, and kids of all ages who are touched by epilepsy for a joyful day and years of memories,” said Dr. Diane Stein, founding sponsor of Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland Resort.
Visit EpilepsyAwarenessDay.org for weekly blog posts and other information about the event.
I’ll be blogging about my Epilepsy Awareness month trip to the USA, and my posts will be re-posted on various platforms such as Tumblr and my own website.
I’ll also be recording Podcasts and interviews with people who have Epilepsy, just like me, and I’ll also be appearing on a few Television and Radio shows broadcast in the USA, as well as online — will keep you posted about this as time gets nearer.
“ #epilepsy , it’s time to talk about it…!”
