We are proud to announce Samebug is out with a new release! We were busy developing improvements deep in the backend and now these boil down to actual features, influencing both the website and IntelliJ Integration. Update your integration to the latest version and start to take advantage of the exciting new features!

New features

  • Mark solution and write tip: IntelliJ users already know these features which we plan to be the driving force of Samebug Community. In the past, Samebug was a search engine, finding solutions written anywhere on the web. However, now you are encouraged to use Samebug more like a knowledge base, extending it with your own solutions and marking the solution that helped to solve you problem.
  • Crashtag: We like to think about Samebug as a knowledge base, and not as a Q&A forum, because the questions on Samebug (your stacktrace searches) are not independent. Samebug learns from you, and the basic mechanism for this is what we call a crashtag. The core idea is to tag anything (e.g. a blog entry, an answer from StackOverflow, a Jira issue, or even a Samebug user) with a crash, meaning that there is some connection between the tagged entity and the stack trace. Samebug will leverage this to learn more about which stack traces are similar. At the moment crashtagging is possible only for your own searches.
  • Workspace: We are aware that many of you use Samebug working at privacy-sensitive sectors. For you we want to introduce the concept of workspace, where you have total control over the visibility of your Samebug activity. You will be able to create new workspace and invite people to work with you, keeping all your searches and written tips private, but still shared with your team mates.
    Currently all registered users have a private workspace, and workspace management UI is on the way.
