Empowering Communities: My Journey of Leadership and Service

As an entrepreneur, I’ve always believed that business isn’t just about profit — it’s about purpose. For me, founding Cheque Express was an opportunity to create more than just a successful company. It was a chance to uplift communities, empower individuals, and address gaps in the financial system that leave so many underbanked and underserved. I’m Sameer Lalani, and as the founder and CEO of Georgia’s largest money services company, my journey has been shaped by my experiences as an immigrant and my commitment to fostering positive change.

Building a Business Rooted in Inclusion

My story began in Mumbai, India, where I grew up in a vibrant environment rich with culture and entrepreneurial spirit. When I moved to the United States as a teenager, I faced the challenges of navigating a new country, language, and way of life. Watching my parents work tirelessly to establish themselves taught me the importance of resilience, hard work, and community. Their journey inspired me to chart my own path — but with a vision tailored to addressing the needs of those who often feel left behind.

Cheque Express was born from a desire to provide essential financial services to those excluded by traditional banking systems. Whether it’s cashing a paycheck, sending money internationally, or simply managing day-to-day expenses, these services are crucial for many people in our community, including low-income earners, single mothers, and immigrants. For me, Cheque Express is more than a business — it’s a mission to make financial tools accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

Supporting Single Mothers and New Residents

One of the most fulfilling aspects of running Cheque Express has been creating opportunities for those who often face barriers to employment. From the start, I’ve prioritized hiring single mothers and new residents who are legal immigrants to the United States. As an immigrant myself, I understand the struggles of starting over and the challenges of finding meaningful work when opportunities seem scarce.

Providing jobs isn’t just about offering a paycheck; it’s about fostering a sense of dignity, belonging, and empowerment. When I see my team members grow professionally and personally, it reinforces why I started this journey. By investing in people, I’m not just building a business — I’m helping to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Giving Back Through Service

Beyond the work we do at Cheque Express, giving back has always been a core value for me. Volunteering and community involvement are ways I connect with the people who inspire me and ensure that the success of my business translates into broader impact. I’m particularly passionate about youth mentorship, believing that the next generation of leaders often needs guidance, encouragement, and someone to believe in their potential.

Through mentorship programs, I share my experiences and lessons learned to inspire young people to dream big and pursue their goals. Additionally, I’m proud to support philanthropic initiatives that align with my values, sponsoring community events, and helping families in need. These efforts go beyond charity — they’re about creating pathways for individuals to thrive and contribute to their own communities.

Innovation with People in Mind

While Cheque Express incorporates elements of financial technology to improve efficiency, our focus has always been on people. For me, innovation isn’t about chasing the latest trend — it’s about solving real problems in ways that make a tangible difference in the lives of our clients.

Our clients rely on us for services like reliable check cashing and affordable global money transfers. These are not just transactions; they’re lifelines that help people provide for their families, manage their expenses, and stay connected across borders. Staying true to this mission has allowed Cheque Express to grow into the largest and most trusted name in Georgia. Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand our reach in 2025, bringing our services to Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I’m proud of the role we play in supporting our clients’ financial stability and look forward to making an even greater impact in the years to come.

Mentorship and Legacy

Looking back on my journey, one of the things I’m most proud of is my work with young people. Mentorship is a powerful way to give back and shape the future in meaningful ways. Whether it’s sharing insights about entrepreneurship or simply encouraging someone to believe in themselves, I view mentorship as a cornerstone of my legacy.

Success, for me, isn’t just about what I achieve — it’s about the impact I create. As I continue to grow Cheque Express and explore new opportunities, I remain committed to using my platform to empower those willing to work hard and drive positive change.

A Foundation of Values

My time at Emory University played a pivotal role in shaping the values that guide me today. Emory taught me the importance of balancing entrepreneurial ambition with community service. It instilled in me the belief that true leadership is about making a difference in the lives of others, a lesson I carry with me in everything I do. I’m deeply grateful for the education I received, which emphasized not only academic excellence but also civic responsibility and social impact.

Looking Ahead

As I reflect on my journey, I’m inspired by the progress we’ve made and the opportunities that lie ahead. Cheque Express has grown into a business that lifts people up, and I’m excited to continue expanding its reach and impact. Whether it’s creating opportunities for single mothers, supporting new residents, or mentoring the next generation of leaders, I remain focused on the purpose that drives me.

For me, entrepreneurship is about more than building a business — it’s about building a better world. And as I look to the future, I’m committed to making a meaningful difference, one step at a time.
