A Little About Pontoon Sports

Since 2006, Pontoon has focused on developing technically innovative sports apparel. Classic Pontoon styles with an innovative twist create performance-driven garments. Pontoon continually draws on a range of progressive elements, as well as a comfortable fit, in our design process.

Inauguration:

Pontoon sports is a custom team wear sports apparel company. It was started in 1999 and mostly rowing suits. Ceasing on the fact that people were bored of the limited and expensive options for rowing suits. Our garments were picked up by various AAGPS School rowing programs. Finally, in 2006 Pontoon Sports are started officially as a custom team wears brand based on rowing.

Innovation:

It became apparent that selling ordinary rowing suits would not be enough. The need to bring in the latest and technical fabrics and to move into new sports. This led to the introduction of the first innovative technical fabric which was known as Supplex Lycra. The Supplex Lycra rowing suit was displayed in 2006 at the Australian National Rowing Championship held at Lake Barrington, Tasmania. The philosophy of being always ahead in fabric and garment technology was firstborn.

Expansion:

In 2008, the business expanded internationally. From Australia, they decided to move into the UK rowing market, Pontoon Sports in Putney, London was born. Soon they started supplying rowing suits to Thames Rowing Club, London Rowing Club, Warwick University, and Exeter University among others. They also started selling training and race day kits for the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race held in 2010 and 2011. That same year the was Kit Designer was developed, which allows bulk team wear orders to be sold online. Customers can design their kit and purchase it online. The Team Order Portal where garments could be sold to the team members by the clubs by setting their shop was also developed.

Diversity:

The first sport outside of rowing that Pontoon catered for was paddling. The garments were special paddling shorts, spray decks, and kags. In 2014 Pontoon supplied custom team wear to the University of New South Wales in the Australian University Games 2015. After supplying casual and sportswear for all types of sports in this event they became a full multi-sport wear brand. Even currently in 2021 Pontoon sports is at the top in custom team wear. Pontoon is known for its detailed knowledge of garments and innovative fabrics, which are used to design garments for different types of sports. The sports for which they supply garments include Rowing, Paddling, Cycling, Netball, Rugby, Martial Arts, Hockey, etc. Pontoon Sports try to evolve based on the feedback of their customers. Pontoon Sports has worked with many institutions over the last fifteen years which they are maintaining with legacy. Pontoon sports specialize in customized team wear, sports, and casual apparel which are comfortable and innovative.

Sustainability Policies

Pontoons supply chain meets the rules, practices, and guidelines as set out by the International Labour Organisation (ILO)

Pontoon is an active green supply chain management participant. The most cited definition of GSCM was given as the ‘application of environmental management principles to the entire set of activities across the whole customer order cycle, including design, procurement, manufacturing and assembly, packaging, logistics, and distribution’. Green Supply Chain Management can be represented as GSCM= Green Purchasing + Green Manufacturing/ Materials Management + Green Distribution / Marketing + Reverse Logistics.

Operations

By following vertical manufacturing, Pontoon can contribute to increased sustainability by reducing the supply chain, logistics, and redundancy in business processes. Sustainability can also be implemented by eliminating waste in various operations involved, through continuous improvement, use of lean manufacturing tools, energy conservation, water harvesting, machine optimization, and waste management.
