An Introduction to MailChimp Automation
Taking advantage of MailChimp’s FREE service
What Is MailChimp?
MailChimp is a free and subscription based service which allows you to send email campaigns. Here’s a brief rundown of what’s included:
- Embed a form on your website to build a subscription list.
- Manage subscribers and allow users to unsubscribe.
- Easily design and send mobile friendly marketing campaigns to your subscribers.
- See who’s opened your email and clicked on any links with built in reporting.
It’s always recommended that you use a service like MailChimp to send email campaigns. Unless you’re an experienced developer, styling email via services like GMail, Mail or Outlook can be very tricky. MailChimp provides beautiful, pre-designed templates that you can quickly customise with their drag and drop interface.
Some email services also limit how many emails you can send per day. Going over this limit or sending unsolicited emails can get your domain blacklisted. This will effect your email service in the long run.
What Is MailChimp Automation?
MailChimp provides a very powerful service called automation. This tool allows you to automate certain actions when a user signs up to your list. Let’s take a look at some cool examples…
Let’s say you’d like to treat your subscribers to a special offer on their birthday. You achieve this by adding a birthday field to your subscription form. From there, you create a special campaign that contains your offer. Your offer will then be automatically sent to that subscriber on their birthday.
A great way to build subscribers is by offering a free course. MailChimp allows you to create a series of emails which will automatically send after a person has signed up.
For example, imagine you’re fitness instructor who wants to offer a 6 part short course on getting fit. Once the visitor has subscribed through your form, they will receive 6 emails over a series of time. It’s completely up to you how frequently they receive your emails. This can be fully customised via the automation dashboard.
If you have an online store, MailChimp offers a wide range of e-commerce automation tools. These range from customer re-engagement to order notifications and rewards.
Automation Is Now FREE
Up until recently, automation was a premium feature. MailChimp has recently announced that this service is now free. This is great news for startups who want to start building their lists, but don’t have a big budget.
