What brought you to Engineering Econ in Fall of 2018? What do you think of this whole blogging thing?
Besides Engineering Econ being a required course to get my degree in Electro Mechanics, I decided to take Engineering Econ because it sounded interesting. Before I elaborate further on why I picked Engineering Econ I would like to explain a little bit about me. At the start of this fall, I transferred to Temple from Bucks County Community college with an Associates Degree in Engineering. This will be my first semester at a University and my first time living on my own. Now back to why I picked Engineering Econ. I decided to enroll into Engineering Econ not just because I wanted to take it, but also because at Bucks I took a course in microeconomics, which I found very interesting. I chose to learn micro at the time because I thought it would be great to have some knowledge behind how our economy works and also because I’m trying to build myself a future towards working for a business or starting one, which would happen after I get my PE. When I saw that I had to take Engineering Econ during orientation, I wondered how it would be different from microeconomics. “Would it be all supply and demand curve analysis or will it teach me about how to set up an engineering project and how to budget out the costs of supplies needed to build the final product as well as equipment and materials needed to conduct research?” I thought. With these questions and the help of advisors, I knew that the path I had been constructing for myself leading out of Temple and into the business world would require me to have the knowledge taught in this course.
When it came to the concept about blogging, I viewed it as either a personal journal that is accessible to the general public or as a way display one’s views on past or current events. In my mind, blogging was used more as a way to talk about oneself and anything substantial that had happened in his or her life in order to entertain or help others. Until this past week when my professor, Dr. Ferrar, said that blogging helped him in a job interview, whether it was a fictitious example or a truthful event, I never viewed blogging to be a form of utility since we are all limited on time. The fact that blogging could help in a job interview or even be useful to practice one’s ability to organize his or her thoughts on paper before displaying them in a public or professional social scenario, I find inconceivable. Yet for some people it works. When I was young, I used to have little of a desire to try new things, whether it was an activity or food. Over time I have found that if I don’t grasp at new opportunities that appear in front of me, I may never get another chance to discover if the knowledge I could have taken form the experience would have been beneficial or something I would not desire to do try again. What I am trying to say is that for my first time creating a blog post, I have to say it is an interesting experience and would like to see where it leads.
