It doesn’t seem like the Knicks would want to do that, Melo doesn’t have any leverage so there’s no reason to make the team worse through the deal. I mean, the Knicks can actually make the playoffs in the East if Melo tries hard and KP stays healthy, and I just don’t see him intentionally dogging it even if he’s unhappy, in the end he knows the no-trade was his idea, and the Knicks should not feel held up by him. The Kings felt held up by Cousins even though he had no leverage, and they took a low ball offer for no reason. That’s exactly the outcome that Scott Perry was brought in after the fact to never let happen again. I think they’ll wait till the deadline, they have nothing to lose waiting. Maybe Kevin Love gets hurt or something and the Cavs are desperate, they could get back Love for the 2018/19 season, have a good pick, and have some real assets to work with. Getting back pennies on the dollar now is just a bad idea.
