The Process. 1 hr later.

This screen can be kind of an intimidating one — that little cursor blinking away asking what you’re going to create. Add the element of creating a website for yourself and defining who you want to be on the internet, where do you even start?
For me, I started in the magical land I was headed: the internet. My first hour of making my own website was spent on Pinterest, Onepagelove, Dribbble, Unsplash and at least fifty other tabs looking for inspiration and insight. And I found, oh did I find it. The web can be a labyrinth, with so many incredible sources of inspiration but on that same note, it can also overwhelm.

So many awesome photos.
So little time.
After getting super inspired by all of the incredible stuff being created on the internet today, I found it was really important for me to take a step back and really figure out what I wanted to bring to my site. So I closed my laptop, got out a pen and paper and jotted down some notes.
What inspires me? What do I like when it comes to design? What were some trends I found across everything I liked? Colours, type, images, feelings — I wrote them all down, took another step back and from there everything fell into place.
In my opinion, authenticity is key when it comes to creating anything personal, it’s probably a good thing for life too, but maybe that’s another blog post. Rustic colours, natural elements, fairly minimal design, and modern type were themes I found across everything that I was drawn to, which I tried to apply to my own design.
After finishing my site and showing a few close friends and family, they all responded with something similar to “Oh, that’s sooo you.” Which is the best compliment of all.
So if you’re stuck on design, or that blinky cursor is getting into your psyche and stressing you out, collect some inspiration and then step back from it. Look for trends, think about what you really enjoy, and be authentic.
Then go forth and create.
