A Birthday Thang (involving books)
Okay quick little backstory: Last year a set of light filled people helped to raise some bones for those folks out there fighting the good fight.
Overall, I was pretty blown away by the whole episode and felt all of the feels.
Since, it’s on the way to a full three hundred and sixty five days since that event transpired and to coincide with my 11680 day on earth (That’s a 32 year of life for those of you playing at home)
It felt right to spread more lightness, softness and goodness for the year ahead. Hence this year is not about gifts, instead my birthday wish is …
To help create more light than dark in this world.
How you may ask?
By supporting a world where no children suffer from violence
Why’s this a problem:
Globally 1 in 5 children will experience some form of physical or sexual violence (Source: *World Health Organisation 2014, Child Maltreatment Fact sheet N°150) before the age of 18. If that sounds abstract, that’s 1 child in every Australian classroom (1 in 29)
How can it be solved ?
By supporting some great organisations already doing great work during the formative years of at-risk children worldwide.
They include the following -
So I’ve become a #polishedman
To help the wonderful people at YGAP who are aiming to significantly and measurably impact one million lives by 2018
You may have seen me painting my nails in support of this campaign. If not, please have a look at my twitter feed.
The goal is indeed massive, however should the right motions happen it is achievable.
So my offer to you is this…
(plus a few things to sweeten the pot)
- Join me during the #polishedman campaign by clicking here. It’s worth clicking through just to check out the site; Polished Man has outdone themselves with the site this year. Hat tip to the kind folk at Raisely
- To get your engines started, and to put my money where my mouth should be: I’ve already donated $500 bones to the kitty.
- If the spirit takes you, please make a $32 donation (for my 32 years), or whatever you can ($1, $32, $1,000)
4. We hit the $1K target and keep building momentum towards positively impacting one million lives by 2018. This isn’t rhetoric.
Small steps are precisely the key, to creating the change that we wish to see.
To get this party started.
I’m giving away books, Yes books! (To the value of $200)
All in paper form ready for learning. As they say the most powerful thing in life is an education worth having. You can see some candidates right here.
If paper isn’t your thing or there is something else that’s on your hit list we can work something out.
Here’s how to get it:
2. Leave a comment on this post telling me what you did (Facebook, Twitter, blog post, e-mail blast, e-mail signature, encouraged employees/friends to do the same, company donation matching, etc.).
This should be put up by 5pm on the 31st of October. (As always deadlines are quite malleable)
[Italicized Bracketed Interlude №1: Originally this was going to all end on the 17th of October. However shit happens and falling into a deep hole of ‘Black Mirror’ to consider the extremely dystopian future has a way of extending timelines. Thankfully the world keeps spinning.]
I’ll pick the winner and notify the appropriate party by carrier pigeon, sea otter or more likely email/DM.
If nothing else think about it for the best reason of all…
Beyond the bribes, you’ll feel awesome about yourself for doing real good.
So will you pause for me for a moment and step up, even if for $1? It would mean the world to me. I’ll share updates as I get them.
Thank you for reading this post, sending you all the feels for making it down this far.
Peace, Prosperity & Paper
