I’ve been fascinated by EV’s since they became main stream. Since they were available for purchase by general public. But the unfortunately I didnt have the budget for one. For one they were always priced well above the price that I was able to afford.
And when Tesla announced the Model 3 and promised a car below $30,000 I was thought that finally there would be one that will fall within my budget. But when the Model 3 launched in Australia it was about 65K and currently its about 70k for the lowest spec. It was still above the amount I was comfortable to spend on a car. I reasoned that in a couple of years that they would fall below 50k and eventually I could buy a used car. And I was happy to keep my current ICE car till that happned. Which I assumed would be in 2–3 years. Circa 2022–2023.
Then Covid happened. And now the Model 3 has a 9–12 month waiting list. And the used cars that have done 40–50k km’s are priced above the price of a brand new car.
And then yesterday, Tesla opened the orders for the Model Y. Priced 5K above the Model 3 for the base version, but they were promising delivery between September to November. That is that is between 3 to 5 months.
So I put in a deposit. Didn’t think too much. Didn't plan how I was going to pay for it. But I have 3 months to figure things out!
