Infinity Pool Movie 2023 Review

Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool” is a wild ride of a movie that demands its viewers to leave their expectations at the door. With a story that is both surreal and violent, the film tackles the themes of privilege, morality, and the human psyche in a way that is both unapologetic and profound. While the film may not be for everyone, those who are willing to take the plunge will be rewarded with an experience that is truly unique.

The film opens with James Foster, played by Alexander Skarsgard, and his partner Em, played by Cleopatra Coleman, on vacation at an exclusive resort in a fictional country. James, an author suffering from writer’s block, is looking for inspiration, while Em is trying to support him in any way she can. It is at this resort that they meet Gabi, played by Mia Goth, and her partner Alban, played by Jalil Lespert.

Gabi, a beautiful young woman, tells James that she is a fan of his work, and the two quickly become captivated by each other. After a night of drinking, James and his companions get into an accident on the way back to the resort, which leads to the death of a local man. All four travelers are taken in by the authorities, who explain that the country they are in has a policy where murder must be avenged by the victim’s son. However, there is a way out for the extremely wealthy — a cloning process that will create another version of the person to be murdered while the original watches.
