10 Things I saw from the NBA tonight!
1. Kyle Lowry sat out against the Celtics tonight due to a right wrist injury he sustained in the game against Charlotte. Then he participated in the 3 point competition(!!!), and the all-star game. What. The. Hell. I love you Kyle, but this was silly.
2. Real deal Beal, he seems to be taking the all star snub in stride. His game is finally starting to reflect his talent, he’s been so important to the rise of the Wizards with John Wall. He’s clinical in his shot preparation, and he’s very adept at attacking closeouts, he targets the planted foot of the defender. 40 spot tonight in the loss.
3. Not familiar with Alex Abrines? Don’t worry you don’t have to be, but he had a good game tonight, hit his open 3 pointers for OKC. Russel Westbrook sleep walked his way to another triple double.
4. MCGRUUUUUDER! Rodney (Dangerfield) Mcgruder with near perfect game for the Heat off the bench! The Heat were amazing sharing the ball tonight, and a lot of the credit should go to Dragic, he has had their offense humming the past 15 games.
5. The Knicks offered D-Rose straight up for Rubio. The Timberwolves balked at that proposal, and for good reason. Rubio is a top 5 defensive point guard in the league, a top flight PnR decision maker, and a constant triple double threat. 14 assists, easy Wolves win.
6. The Utah Jazz were really impressive tonight. They hit their outside shots, but Gobert and Favors bossed the paint tonight.
7. Jokic is effortless. His passing out of the high and low post really does remind me of Arvydas Sabonis (I know I’m young, but I’ve watched highlights).
8. Free basketball in Chicago! The Bulls and Suns went to OT, but more importantly I hate watching MCW shoot, he hit the side of the backboard so hard he gave the Jerry West logo a concussion.
9. The Raptors, holy man. DeMar DeRozan bullied the Celtics small guards all game to the tune of a new career high; 43 points. Isaiah Thomas had a subpar game, and made a gun gesture at DeMarre Carroll, expect the league to address that.
10. Ibaka and PJ Tucker add something… the Raptors seem “unfuckwithable” they didn’t have Lowry tonight, they leaned heavily on DeMar. More importantly, the Raptors had their best defensive showing of the season, playing an extremely switch heavy scheme with Tucker and Ibaka providing elite defense. What a statement from the Raptors.
