Overall good thoughts and generally I think those trends are limiters. It is certainly true that while Utah is excellent at filling need-margins and value-gaps, the real thought leadership is weaker here. We don’t have the same volume of ideas that push the bounds of science and engineering. As far as hiring engineers while in college vs. someone with 4 yrs experience, I would highly favor the one with more experience for a startup. An engineer in college would have to prove exceptionally bright and driven because I know I would have to get him up to speed on the business side. So while I would like to see STEM being an idea factory while in school, I am fine with them getting a little experience before jumping on a start-up team.
