Son of a Gun in Full Control

by Samuel Findlay on August 12, 2016

Wollonong’s popular shipping-container turned cafe co-op at 82 Market Street has seen a recent change this past week, with Sifters Espresso moving out of the space, making room for the new venture, Son of a Gun, to take over.

Son of a Gun, owned by Burnsbury Hospitality, have taken full control of the container space, now producing both the coffee and the food.

Son of a Gun and Sifters Espresso previously worked next to each other in the same container as separate businesses, with Sifters Espresso making the coffee at one end and Son of a Gun the food at the other. Son of a Gun will now take full reigns of the entire space and make the coffee too, bringing in further staff members to get the job done.

The change aims to give the space, formally shared with Sifters Espresso as a collaborative partnership, a differnt look and a fresh start along with new branding.

For many customers, the previous situation was confusing with food coming from one business and the coffee and other drinks another. Now, Son of a Gun will hope that the streamline takeover will function better and best serve all customers looking for a caffeine hit and a bite to eat.

Along with the re-do comes new produce from Melbourne, including coffee from Seven Seeds, tea from Assembly, hot chocolate from Mork and chai from Prana Chai. Not only has the drinks list been updated but a new food menu has also been launched to celebrate the new ownership.

Coming into the warmer months of the year, the outdoor seating that the cafe provides will look to cater for all residents of Wollongong as done previously.

Son of a Gun is now open Monday through to Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. On the weekends the hours vary with the cafe open from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Sifters Espresso, which first occupied the container cafe in 2014, will re-open at a new destination under the new name Opus Coffee Brewers at 120 Keira Street, Wollongong. It is unknown at this stage when Opus Coffee Brewers will open their doors but it is likely to happen within the next week or so.
