We might wonder whether more “makeup” is a valid short-term solution.

I hear you on that, and in a vacuum I agree. The trouble I see is that many (MANY) companies go with the “quick fix patch” in the moment, and consider the problem to then be fully solved.

If companies were 100% going to solve the problem in a long-term sense, then a quick fix en route to that would be great. Not so great if it ends there, however, especially if it then becomes a “best practice” or even the definition of “onboarding” itself.
