I don’t think it’s at all fair to say that Barack Obama was perceived as a Moderate Democrat when he was elected. Indeed, he was the more liberal alternative to Clinton in the primary and was constantly called a big-government socialist by Republicans in the general.

I just think the foundation of your argument is a little alarmist…Barack Obama defied all odds by being a one-term black senator being elected president — I don’t think it’s ANY less believable that a white, 73 year old Jew could win now.
