Hi everyone! Welcome to My Data Analysis project using Excel & Tableau.

Messi at Barcelona

Introduction

Firstly, the reason why I chose this project was because of my likeness for Messi as a person and footballer.

Lionel Andrés Messi (born 24 June 1987), also known as Leo Messi, is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for and captains both Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF and the Argentina national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi has won a record eight Ballon d’Or awards, a record six European Golden Shoes, and in 2020 was named to the Ballon d’Or Dream Team. Until leaving the club in 2021, he had spent his entire professional career with Barcelona, where he won a club-record 34 trophies, including ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey titles and four UEFA Champions Leagues. With his country, he won the 2021 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

I downloaded the dataset from Kaggle. The dataset contains information about all Messi club goals at professional level from 2005– till date. The dataset contains 729 rows and 16 columns. Each row represents Messi’s club goal scoring details.

The columns are:

· Game_ID — Unique number for each Matchday

· Season — The Matchday Season

· Competition — Name of the Competition

· Matchday — Matchday no

· Date — Date of the event

· Date_in_year — Date of the event in year

· Date_in_month — Date of the event in month

· Venue — Home / Away / Neutral

· Club — Club name

· Opponent — Opponent Club name

· Goal_no — Goal no

· Result — Match Score

· Playing Position — The position played (CF/RW/LW/SS/AM)

· Minute — Minute played

· Type — Type of Goal Scored.

· Goal_assist — The name of the player (assister)

The dataset was a bad data when downloaded. I made used of Excel to organize, clean, analysis the dataset.

Data Cleaning and Integrity

· Data Formatting.

· Remove Duplicates and Blank (unnecessary) data.

· Excel Functions & Formulas: I used “text()” function to convert the matchday date to date in year & month format. “Trim()” function to remove leading and trailing blank spaces and many more.

· Sorting & Filtering Data
