My “Center for Artificial Intelligence & Digital Policy” (CAIDP) Fall 2022 Research Group EXPERIENCE

WEEK 1 Ep. 1: A little History

I was a teenager in SS1 (high school), and some of my colleagues had brought the contraband but famous “Winning 11” game installation discs into our boarding school, and secretly installed them on the desktops in our “computer lab” as we called it. I think it was WINDOWS XP we had…

We would sometimes deceitfully and through emotional blackmail (don’t ask me how….. lol) gain access to the lab, and watch the gaming pros among us slug it out, while we took turns on the watch-out for our Computer teacher Mr. O. The risks of this “razzle-dazzle” were innumerable but somehow our “teenage rascality” never got caught in the traps and I even picked up few skills.

I’ve always been intrigued by screens and keyboards; the dots, complex programming and engineering behind them. For me, there was an adrenaline rush that came with being around them especially in my younger years when computer screens and mobile devices were quite scarce compared to recent times. I lazily dabbled into coding one time but dozed off; maybe I might pick up the trail sometime in the near future. But oh well, I decided to study law but that intrigue never left.

The intersect of law and technology has always been an area I had avid interest in exploring from my undergraduate days, and data privacy and protection practice gave me some insight.

Artificial intelligence is an area I had also set my sights on, and selection to the Centre for Artificial intelligence and Digital Policy (Washington) Fall 2022 Research Group Clinic, was the highlight of the third quarter of 2022 for me.

From my research about previous CAIDP Research Groups, I knew the kind of personalities to expect, but it’s never the same when you actually get to meet them on the various platforms and hear some list their “exploits” as I like to call it.

It is a privilege to be part of a Research Group of 190 persons, spanning 60 countries. It consists of Partners of prestigious law firms, scholars, economic experts, tech experts, diplomats, established policy analysts, and people like me with dreams of becoming household names in the Artificial Intelligence and Tech Policy sphere. This is definitely a huge leap forward in pursuit of that dream.

At first, volumes of materials, texts, articles, opinions, and deadlines hit you, but then, it’s not the first time you have been in such a position, is it? As all the information slowly cascades, it becomes “oh well, this is what I am here for, and it promises to be exciting times.

So what are we doing exactly? Next EPISODE
