A Hack
In a recent article in the Washington Post, E.J. Dionne took aim at Austrian economics, and, in the process, revealed his ignorance.
So, let me just say this as bluntly as I can:
E.J. Dionne is a hack, and not because he criticizes Austrian economics (although, from the article, it’s obvious he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about).
The article is riddled with errors and misrepresentations, but let’s deal with an obvious one, shall we?
Dionne quotes someone who claims that, for Hayek,“if you begin with welfare policies of any sort — directing individuals, taxing for social ends, engineering the outcomes of market relationships — you will end up with Hitler.”
This is ludicrous, because Hayek SUPPORTED WELFARE POLICIES like the UBI (universal basic income). He was probably fine with a minimal amount of government-funded healthcare, as well.
How dense and deaf do you have to be to miss that stuff? It’s all over the internet!
