Ideas for New Media

I come up with alot of futuristic ideas and concepts but alot of these ideas are for product I don’t own or apart of so I’m hoping if I blog, tweet about them someone else can bring them into fruition.

5 media outlets I focused on *in order*;

Snapchat
Twitter
Soundcloud
WhatsApp
Periscope

Snapchat

World view

I think this feature would be cool because it could take you places where you’ve never been

the most popular snap-chatters (at the beginning) would be viewable

popular global events, phenomena could be discovered on world view.

The world would be rotatable with swipe

There could be a page prior to this asking for a users interests then snapchat could use that information to display on world view

2) Opening it up

For me, snapchat is a very closed platform which is great in some way but it would make it difficult if a user wanted to build a following without being popular elsewhere.

Snapchat being a very personal platform is cool but it doesn’t mean people may not be interested in finding other users without having to use other social mediums. Snapchat is large enough to be a more of an independent platform.

Revenue Stream: drop ads in those with the most popular feeds but the ads must be skippable and look curated for snap

3) News broadcasting

Snapchat can have an impact as large as youtube, democratising news.

Live snap stream. Could be displayed in world view;

Earthquake in Brazil
Protests in Ferguson

Snapchat has the great chance to shed light on some social issues happening around the world. They have access in places the majority of media outlets can’t go and won’t go. It’s a more authentic platform than whats considered mainstream.

4) Snapchat Live Story

I see so many events happening in my city (London) and wish I knew where they were.

I think snapchat should add a feature where one could find out about an event happening. in the London stream it could be done by;

Print screen or hold and drag their finger somewhere in the corner for 5 seconds on the events stream in the London story for instance and then get a message about the event details (location, time, about).

This feature could be a great way to meet people & explore!

5) Snap Cloud

A lot of memories don’t get saved when posted on snapchat. Snapchat could have a subscription service where a user could save their pictures to a cloud, for instance at the end of the year you get a photographic history of the year. Download any snaps you took at any time during the past week, month, year.

Could work for different tiers;

£2.99 for X amount of pictures/videos

£3.99 for Y amount of pictures/videos

Twitter

What I realised is that I favourite a lot of media but it wasn’t only because I liked what I saw but so I could check the media later. I think what would be good idea to turn it into some sort of reading list

The media could be organised by time/date but type of media; news, pictures, music, tweets without media

You should be able to doodle on your pictures like you can on Snapchat

Soundcloud

Artists should be able to make money from Soundcloud. If an artist gets huge amount of listens, there should be an option for consumers to purchase it. It’s a great way to support their craft, those who do it for fun or leisure. Soundcloud could take a %.

Soundcloud lacks a music homepage.
