Nokia made some of the weirdest phones ever

Their creative director must’ve been on something

Before the iPhone, even before blackberry everyone wanted a Nokia. They were robust, had one of the best battery lives ever and looked cool (at the time). I badly wanted one when I was in high school but now they look weird as hell. I’m all for creativity, but what on earth was going on! Here’s a look back at their weirdest designs;

Nokia 7280

Firstly, it looks like lipstick, secondly it has no buttons to type in your number or text. In order to do either you had to spin the dial similar to the iPod. Imagine trying to text someone on this, what were they thinking.

Nokia 7600

One word: Iconic.

We all wanted to one, if you were cool you had one of these. I’m looking at this now and I’m like what was I thinking, this look like futuristic soap.

Nokia 3250

This phone had a swivel function, you would turn the bottom so the phone became a fully fledged music player and on the side it had a 2mp camera. Shout out the to the design team for this one.

Nokia N-Gage

N-gage, engage, get it? This phone was attempting to be the perfect synergy between a handheld gaming console and being a phone. Imagine trying to answering a phone on this.

Nokia 3650

I have no idea about what’s going on here, ergonomically it doesn’t even make sense. It just looks odd, looks like a hospital bed remote. Who signed off on this.

Nokia 5510

Looks like a Nokia 3310 that’s just doing too much. On these phones you could only really call, text and play basic games. Who needs a full on qwerty keyboard for that, this phones only purpose was to try to make you look cool and 21st century. I don’t think it did.

Nokia N93

🐐 phone! I badly wanted this phone, it looked super cool, had a futuristic looking camera set up, 3x optical zoom and a 3.2 megapixel lens! It was just awesome looking. They had the right thinking, cameras in our smartphones are one it’s most important features.

Nokia 6800

I’ll give it to them, this phone was pretty cool. It seemingly transformed from a traditional phone to a phone with a complete keyboard whilst keeping a relatively slim form factor.

I saw this in the movies and I instantly wanted one. It was like a mini laptop, you could surf the internet, email and watching videos it was just cool and nifty. This phone was hinting at the future of mobile without realising.

Nokia 7700

Your MCM had this phone. This really looks like a stormtrooper’s helmet, I’m done.

Nokia was huge a decade ago, but eventually fell due not moving with the times i.e the smartphone revolution. When it did it made too many errors and the product that great either. But during it’s hey day, it really did some ‘interesting’ stuff! — They’ll never be forgotten.
