Working on Resume and Cover Letter

As much as I believed that resumes are our first impression to or potential employer, I never put so much thought into developing one. But I am glad that this fellowship made me commit to this intensive brain workout and made me quit my comfort zone and think really, really hard before actually writing anything.

Along with the knowledge of action verbs, summary skills and super secrets to make a great, indelible resume and cover, I principally applied the 4th principle of progress, ek aur ek gyara hai, i.e. both resume and cover letter complement each other and one loses its worth without the other.

So, here I am presenting the final drafts after burning the midnight oil.

Project 1: Adding Action Verbs and Quantification to Ruqayya Rocks Resume

Action verbs(kyun kyun kyun) and quantification of the results (kya haasil hua) are in Bold.

Cover Letter to Hiring Manager of COTHM-Pakistan

Dear Mr. Abdul Latif,

I am a TESOL certified English Language Trainer, and am applying for the Language Trainer opportunity at COTHM, posted in Dawn News. I have a keen interest for training & development and would welcome the opportunity to contribute my research, exposure, skills and experience to your prestigious institution.

I am excited about the growth that you have made as a hospitality institute, both at national and international level. I am aware of the importance of personality grooming and development in hospitality industry. Your emphasis on personality development along with English Language training aligns with the training I have received during my TESOL and F&B management certifications. Your commitment to producing the most refined hospitality personnel makes me want to contribute the knowledge and experience that I have gained and I am sure it will also provide me with great opportunities to learn and relearn.

In addition to my concentration in TESOL, I have completed advanced coursework in Hotel Revenue Management and Food & Beverages Management. The course works provided me with an opportunity to have a hands on experience of both industries, with 30 hours per week field visits and projects, and 6 intensive workshops in 2 months. This experience refined and broadened my exposure and groomed me fit as per this profession’s requirements. As a member of International Certified Trainers, I have trained 500+ hospitality professionals from all over the Pakistan, from the platform of NAVTAC- Government of the Punjab, and increased their international placement from 65% to 88% in 2 months. Moreover, during these experiences, I have polished my soft skills that are a must for a personality development trainer, and have received the “Best employee of the month” award for punctuality, kindness, communication skills, empathy and counseling etc.

Concluding this, I would like to appreciate the hard work you must have been putting in through this rigorous recruitment process and I wish you excellence and the best of everything in life. PS. I look forward to seeing you if my application comes through. Thank you.
