Care - Its the most human we are.
What is care? To me, its way more than love. It is the simplest thought that shows that you mattered in the moment. At times, its all that is needed. And at others, its all that is missing.
You say you love, but do you care?
The world teaches us in varied doses about what love is. But doesn’t care enough to teach us that love is like a Jenga block. Without care, it will most certainly fall.
An honest confession: Our expectations from love are so vague and hence we ace it. It is all about to be found princes, white horses in perfect palaces, happily ever after — a farce. In truth, love is now a condition of existing in the environment. Care, however, is what our own heart conditions and meets with our individual mind.
These moments are like flashes. A few days back, I met a little boy, a complete stranger, offer me a chocolate and was relieved as i said no. Soon after he pointed to a flower setting and asked me to take a flower and smiled. On realizing that i hadn’t, he got down struggling from a mountain of a chair and pulled out a flower. He came, smiled, put the flower in my hand with a mouth full of chocolate. It was at this moment that i knew that here was a complete stranger who didn’t know himself what he just did. But i knew that it was — Care.
It is a simple pot of maggi made when you land home from a long day to an empty refrigerator, a ticket booked to surprise everyone for a holiday or making someone a cup of tea after blowing up the kitchen. Care makes us go the extra mile without reasons or conditions that deter. Care is what we truly crave as a human. You and I can vouch for it. For instance, the initial days of courtship is about showing how much one cares, not how many time I love you was said. These three words have been placed on a pedestal they cant handle. They need to be rediscovered one day at a time. What the world needs now is to start caring.
Just as an experiment sit on a Sunday afternoon and build in a flashcard box a collection of moments that you relive and smile at. They will be reflecting care- care for people, care from people and care for yourself.
