Thanks for Banning me from Fortnite, Epic games.
So this is how it went down. Around May, probably during Season 3 of Fortnite Battle Royale, I joined the ultimate battle royale bandwagon. Fornite wasn’t as popular as it is now, leading the gaming industry with it’s record breaking player participation and celebrities.
I just finished my 5th semester board exams, and was searching for something new. PUBG was all the rage then, but I couldn’t buy it and play it on PC. Quick google search for a free battle royale game led me to Fortnite, a supposedly funny looking battle royale, where you build and shoot.
I signed up and started my first few games. To say the least, I was hooked. With plenty of time to waste, and a new found determination to get good, I played the game day and night. Ok, not that obsessively though. Let’s say an average of 3hrs per day.
Problem #1
My laptop is from a bygone era. It does have an i5 processor and a very poor AMD graphics, but by the current gaming standards, it is a relic of the past. And that was my biggest problem. Every battle ended with me trying to save my ass from the ninja like players(atleast by my then standard) while also guessing where the person went. Since every shotgun one-vs-one encouter resulted in 2 fps lags, I was a dead man almost everytime. I did play poorly but a huge credit of my countless death goes to my shitty laptop.
The Grand Solution
After playing for 1.5 months, I got an UPGRADE. THE upgrade. No, I didn’t buy a super computer worth a 1000000000000 rupees. I got a 4GB ram addition to my laptop. And now it’s a total of 8 gigs of memory. This almost doubled my gaming experience. Before this, the buldings tooks a ton of time to load and lags were consistent. I still play at a ultra low res but now I can play with minimal lag.
Comeback and Downfall
It had only been a month or so since I got consitent kills in the game. Build fights were more of an entertaining challenge rather than a confusing occurrence in-game. I played with friends from near and far, close friends from school and my past, and random people on the internet.
BUT, on the 28th of August 2018, I was banned. At around 11:15pm I logged in to fortnite. Epic updated the game as any other simple update. I joined to the lobby and jumped from the battle bus. Just as I was searching where to land, the loading screen started and I was out of the game.

I tried to play the game 2 or 3 times again, and then, I got banned. I was automatically logged out of the game and forbidden to enter. The end.
Loss
The thing about fortnite is I played it to get achievements. Those emotes and gliders and back blings are just cosmetics. But they are also a part of our identity and accomplishments throughout the game. I loved the 3 unlocked pick axes. I love this back bling.

But all this is gone now. Everything is lost.
Recovery
Sorry for being a bit dramatic, not all is lost though. On the bright side, I have to admit that I was more obsessed with the game than I wanted. My youtube feed was full of fortnite related content, and it was distracting. Continous gameplay deteriorated my sleep time and I was always tired. I don’t want to stop playing this game. I have created another a/c but it does the same thing. So looks like there is no other option. I am insanely frustrated, really. But gloating over this is not worth it.
I totally stopped exploring odd videogames after starting to play fortnite. I can continue that in my free time. For now, I can better focus on my academics without worrying about completing daily challenges or getting that next emote, or axe or bling or whatever. This is the end. Most probably. Farewell.
