The banking industry in Canada is tremendously large and growing. With more than 80 different banks existing in Canada, many opportunities exist, but the best experience to gain lies within the Royal Bank of Canada.

As a millennial in the corporate business world, obtaining the necessary experience and path to my career has been difficult. However, after learning of the various opportunities that RBC offered, I quickly applied for a job. After a very structured and organized interview process, and dealing with many kind individuals, I was hired! From my perspective, it was the best experience, and here are the reasons why.

1. A recognized bank in Canada

RBC is the #1 bank in Canada and is recognized as one of the top 100 employers in the country, according to Mediacorp Canada Inc. Having an established company, such as RBC, communicated on your resume can be a driving factor to being hired at other companies as well.

2. Healthy and helpful teams

Tasks within the wealth management sector can be very rushed and stressing, however, coworkers and my boss always had a smile on their faces and helped others understand processes. Meetings are scheduled to make sure all members of the team are on the same page and any ambiguity is cleared and questions are answered.

3. Offers a fun environment

In my past experience working for other employers, the work environment was strict and not easy-going. However, within RBC employees are given the opportunity to speak their minds and state their opinions. Furthermore, the boss and head of the team celebrates and considers the various special occasions of his or her team. Business lunch meetings and dinners frequently occurred with entertaining conversations and discussions. All birthdays were celebrated, and some bosses even made the effort to celebrate baby showers and other special occasions.

4. Exciting work atmosphere

A number of employee-led social committees exist across the bank. Many employees become involved in certain work team sports such as volleyball, basketball, and soccer, organized by the company. This gives individuals an opportunity to socialize with the team outside of work, while also networking with people in other sectors of the business and other teams. Furthermore, business casual dress, casual dress Friday, music while working, and concierge services are available.

5. Allows you to work within more than one project

The company is open to allowing its employees to expand their knowledge by being exposed to other projects and teams. This is extremely important, especially for younger individuals aiming to gain experience and develop their knowledge base. It is also a great opportunity to network and meet new individuals in the company.

6. Fabulous training and skills development

Career planning, in-house training, and development programs are offered to employees. This is done in order to make sure individuals understand their roles and the tasks required of them. Utilizing these opportunities, however, is a great way to expand one’s knowledge base and obtain the best experience. Involving yourself in workshops and mentoring programs offered by RBC is a great way to do that.

So, go ahead, apply for those amazing RBC jobs you’ve heard about. If you’re already there, utilize the amazing resources and opportunities offered, because it truly is the best experience you can get!

As the wise Albert Einstein once said,

“Learning is experience. Everything else is just information”
