For a Snow Day

Sunday Content #23: January 24, 2016

🚨THE ESSAY I WROTE THIS MORNING TURNED INTO SOMETHING BIGGER SO I’M NOT GOING TO PUBLISH IT RIGHT NOW. MAYBE YOU’LL READ IT SOMEDAY AND MAYBE YOU WON’T; DEPENDS IF I WANT TO CONTINUE WORKING ON IT LATER. NOT SORRY BYEEE🚨

If you’re stuck in the snow, The Timbre has a bunch of playlists of podcasts. (I’m looking forward to exploring these, myself.) I’ve listened to a few episodes of New Yorker Radio Hour and dig it. Gimlet also made a playlist of their stuff; I love a coupla their shows (Reply All, Mystery Show) a lot. Listen to Another Round. Listen to Everything is Stories. If you’ve never been through a Dan Savage phase, see if you want to go through one. You want to laugh, put on some vintage How Did This Get Made? Or put on The Read.

If you want to read: reminder that Longform is great. If you want to be a better writer, listen to the Longform Podcast. Via BuzzFeed Books, here are some books coming out this year that I’m stoked about.

Read Jane Mayer on the rebranding of the Koch brothers. Read Anita Badejo about sexual assault at historically black colleges. Read this essay by Nicole Pasulka and Brian Ferree on the connection between Ursula and Divine:

i know right?!?!

I enjoyed watching these two clips from a forthcoming interview Jamilah Lemieux did with Bernie. Or if you’d rather have 8 1/2 full hours that sweet Bern, maybe just put on his famous 2010 filibuster:

Read Bowie’s Proust Questionnaire:

Speaking of which: holy shit.

For to LOL:

Dear readers I’m finally seeing Hamilton today (!!!)—and I am *looks at camera* not throwing away my shot. By which I mean: I want to leave plenty of travel time, given that it’s the snowiest day in all of history. I’ll be back next week with lotsa that good stuff. My Pocket queue overfloweth.

Speaking of which, please, if you ever see something great, send it my way. And hey I’ve had a couple of people reach out saying they cooked or read or listened to a thing they heard about here and when that happens it makes me

so do that. You know, if you want to.

Love,
Sandy

p.s. Reminder that this is real life.
