SILENCE

Have you ever entered a room and the silence in the room frightens you?
Maybe you haven’t, but I have.

Some years back before mama put a full stop to the animalistic behavior of papa, on a certain day, precisely a hot Thursday afternoon, I walked into our not so big but beautiful sitting room of our 3 bedroom apartment, where we have been staying as a family of five for five years.

As I walked in, the silence I met speaks volumes, it was not the usual silence that speaks serenity, it was a toxic one.

My mind traveled far, trying to picture what might have happened.
I walked into the rooms to check who was home, what I saw in the room that papa and mama share has husband and wife took my breath away for a while, mama was there lying almost lifeless in her own blood, I immediately rushed out to call kola, our apartment cleaner, who helped me in taking mama to the hospital.

I knew papa is behind this, he had done it again. I prayed mama survived this and that will be the end.
Mama has always been hiding the truth in her silence. This time, it is brutal and enough is enough!

After two days, mama fully regained her consciousness, when she saw me, with tears dripping down her eyes, she said, "Ada enough is enough". I smiled at her to show some sort of encouragement, at least to let her know that I would support her bold step of voicing out and ending her long 20 years of suffering.

Then she proceeded and said, " I will put him behind the bar".
