Escaping the Conference Comfort Zone with Mozilla

As a journalist, and especially as a sci/tech person of limited attention span, I can’t remember the last time I went to a conference where I felt even remotely comfortable. I almost never know a soul, and I barely understand what’s even being said. It’s in turns awful and dazzling, and when your ignorance overwhelms you, you long desperately for a nap.

Now that I think about it, maybe this is why I felt out of place at a recent TED event. It was like paddling around in the shallow end of the pool while also wearing floaties and screaming at the lifeguard. So welcome to Team Discomfort. I like it better over here.
