Fair question. : ) It’s because, in the world we live in, Backchannel’s own survival is tied to our ability to reliably deliver our stories to interested readers. We only publish stories we care deeply about — we work hard on every single thing we publish, to always rise above the noise. That’s a founding premise of Backchannel. But because every media outlet is jumbled together in the same giant social media firehose, we have no choice but to rely on these tools to elevate our work. That said, we are careful to curate what we share on Facebook and Twitter, and never want to waste our readers’ time.
