Beat procrastination with mindfulness
I closed the editor in anger. The code collapsed like a house of card. It was already 3 hours since I started and I barely made any progress.
To give my frustrated brain a reward, I opened Messenger to check for new messages.
I could feel my brain high over a new message. A sense of contentment flushed my brain.
Still hungry for reward, I opened Youtube for a quick tour of Big Bang Theory conversations. I laughed .. for 1 hour non-stop before closing down YT. The high is gone, I felt even more frustrated. Guilt, anger and shame for not doing my work.
Here is the timeline of my procrastination rabbit hole:
Bump into a difficult/boring task ==> Feel frustrated
==> Open Adrenaline Rabbit Hole, Facebook or Youtube ==> Get high from Youtube sitcoms or real-life sitcom ==> Feel guilty and angry for not getting things done.
I realized I can only break this vicious cycle by cutting the second chain- my attitude when facing boring/difficult tasks.
Replace it with a sense of curiosity, excitement, and a lot of mental spaces.
That may work.
I did this as a quick note and an accountability note.
Apology for grammar, cryptic word uses at times. Now let’s get to work.
