How much money did you make on bitcoins?
Not as many people think. I have been crying for a few years and many people suspect that I have been talking about cryptocurrency for several years, it would be a dirty kingdom if I now earn a steady income making cryptocurrencies, but I am not very rich and it turns out I am much less rich than if I just I continue to work at JPMorgan. This is partly because I have just made a lot of “wrong” decisions. It took me about a year to realize that bitcoin is not a phony scam and then a lot of time to learn not to trade bitcoins.
I was just starting to make money trading bitcoins when I had no other way to lose money by trading bitcoins, and frankly, I would have made more money if I just bought a whole bunch of bitcoins and forgot about it. But if it’s psychological. Turns out, I really don’t want to win the lottery and go to the beach. My dream is to lead a good middle-class life where I run my own business, do technical things that are spiritually rewarding, and get a steady paycheck, so I don’t have to worry about hunger and do things that I find interesting and rewarding.
In part, I may have already learned that the American Dream was a place where the average person could earn a fair daily wage for honest work. The world of lottery tickets where happy is super tall and everyone else just doesn’t get it — is one that I think is hell, and that’s probably why I just can’t buy a ticket. I also worked at an investment bank and cryptocurrency and saw a lot of hyper rich people and I had the opportunity to see different people and ask myself if you wanted to be that person. I have seen many people destroy themselves with huge sums of money, and sometimes I am afraid of being too rich.
But it shows how bad the world is when you only have the rich and the poor and you have no place for the middle class. One of the reasons I work in cryptocurrency is that it’s the only mechanism I’ve seen that can save the idea if the middle class and Americans dream, and I’m trying to turn technology into something that uses to create enough wealth for everyone, and not create a world of lottery tickets. I think this is a lot because I have spent enough of my life being a “failure *” that I do not want to be part of a winning club.
