What breaks my heart is that mining currently uses roughly 144 TWh (terawatt hours) per year -- more than the entire Netherlands. Details here, but it’s in German: https://www.handelsblatt.com/finanzen/maerkte/devisen-rohstoffe/nachhaltigkeit-hoeherer-energieverbrauch-als-die-niederlande-warum-der-bitcoin-angreifbar-ist/27197940.html

In other articles, you talk about the climate. Bitcoin is just one more example for human greed driving the planet to its death. To be fair, when it's renewable energy, then there’s no problem -- but Bitcoin mining is a worldwide endeavour and most of these 144 TWh is anything but clean and it's really a huge, huge problem -- and I'm sad. Why are we like this?
