What I Have Learned From Photographing 400 Towns in Iowa
Cody Weber

It’s a good story and certainly describes some of Trumps supporters, honest dupes desperate for relief but completely incapable of placing the blame for their situations on the real culprits or recognizing a huckster who springs from that class. But does it describe the guy who blames Obama for 9/11 because he was always on vacation and never in the Oval Office? Are the schools any more broken in rural towns than in urban slums? Is the anger in rural communities so much sharper because the events that hurt them occurred within living memory? Is there a genetic gap between people who support Trump and people who don’t which creates this disconnect from reality?

I can sympathize with rural Iowans whose decline somewhat mirrors the loss of mill and logging jobs in the Central Oregon community I grew up in.
