Sleep Is A Cat
Have you seen the commercial
Where sleep is shaped like a white cat?
Whoever created that ad had to have had a cat.
Sleep is elusive, so is a cat.
The dog is Awake, friendly and affectionate.
Sleep the Cat is restless, secretive and moody.
Whether it loves anything is up for discussion.
Awake the Dog’s tail is wagging and it’s jumping and licking your face.
Sleep the Cat is back in your arms and purring.
Because you no longer have to chase Sleep.
My cat was not a lap cat — at least not my lap.
She loved to be petted and demanded attention.
Feeling her purr beneath her fur made me smile.
It became more and more rare when I was no longer able
To keep up with her.
Between the cancer and the meds I just didn’t have the energy.
I had to give her up in September 2014 to a friend
She passed away this April because the insulin my friend kept giving her
No longer worked.
Ironically, April of 2014 was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I’m looking forward to having another cat someday.
But until then I’ll have to settle for Sleep the Cat
Who gives me dreams of my cat.
