The Mandriva is a combination of French distribution Mandrake Linux and the Brazilian distribution Conectiva Linux was a Linux distribution by Mandriva. The OpenMandriva distribution is a fully-featured Linux desktop and server, sponsored by OpenMandriva Association. OpenMandriva Association Is completely based on REDHAT distribution. The Mandrake maintained free and commercial versions of its Linux distribution until 2012. Now it is available only commercially, although free derivatives still exist. At one time, it was hailed as being the most user-friendly Linux distribution available. Though Linux was originally command line based language , many of the features that make current distributions user friendly originated from Mandriva.

HISTORY

The first Mandriva was developed by a French software company Mandrake Soft. And the first release was completely based on REDHAT. It was released on July 1998. The Mandriva Linux was originated by Gaël Duval and intended to be easy to use for new users. In February 2004, the MandrakeSoft lost a court case for infringement and it renamed its products. Starting from version 10.0 Mandrake Linux became known as Mandrakelinux. But, in 2005 Mandrakesoft announced the corporate name of Conectiva. As a result of this acquisition and the legal dispute with Hearst Corporation, Mandrakesoft announced that the company was changing its name to Mandriva Linux. The headquarters of REDHAT is in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

Feature of Mandriva Linux

1) Smart desktop

This is the one thing where Mandriva has taken control. Ubuntu Have tried, for the most part, Are failing to get people to take. But, because of bait for their newest iteration of the PC desktop. Well, Mandriva has successfully won.

2) Better application integration

Now the KDE and GNOME are pre-install applications that are already installed and the interface is looking very simple.

3) Better login manager

The Linux login manager has always Lower than stellar. Although some Might think this not a big deal, first impress a new user see. If you have a login manager that looks like it was stripped from the machine running CDE, can’t impress out of the starting interface.

4) Package management

Mandriva has finally migrated away From PackageKit to offer a much More user-friendly Add/Remove Software utility.

5) Bug reporting

Average users aren’t going to concern themselves with bug reporting, but Mandriva has managed to make it.

Core audience of Mandriva

  2. User-friendly operating system.

  4. It provides the topmost option in a simple interface.
  5. Compare to ubuntu the user can receive a faster response in MANDRIVA.

Advantages of Mandriva Linux

1) The Mandriva’s booting time is fastest possible for a generic distribution because of Speedboot.

2) The Mandriva is generally in the form of a bit so, it is more stable than the Ubuntu.

3) The Mandriva have smart menu.

4) It has more flexibility for graphical installer in mandriva . The people who want a more complete and custom installation than other operating systems.

5) The Mandriva is more user-friendly and the interface is very simple and its easy to use.

6) Mandriva’s development community is very active and accessible.

Disadvantages of Mandriva Linux

1) The Mandriva OS cannot beat the upstream KDE and GTK.

2) The Mandriva configuration of tools has some Bugs or does not have the best looks possible.

3) Lack of familiarity: — This is the biggest problem for people who are Windows users and have trouble with change.

DISADVANTAGES

4) Lack of pre-installed file: — Linux with support from the hardware vendor — Dell is the only major hardware vendor that is currently shipping desktop/laptop systems with Linux pre-installed.

Conclusion

In my opinion that Mandriva is a great distribution, and its offers a better interface choice compared to Ubuntu. But the mandriva is no longer the king of Linux distributions, it’s definitely not out for the count. In future Who knows, maybe Mandriva can even stage a comeback and rise back to be top of the pack.
